Johnstons Canyon and Lake Louise

Wednesday morning started out with gentle falling snow. While it snowed outside, Rico worked for a few hours and I packed up all our things.

We headed north toward Lake Louise, it's only about a half hour or so drive. We took a slight detour to a beautiful place called Johnstons Canyon. I had been there before with my mom about 20 years ago and just remembered it to be a wonderfully beautiful place. When we arrived, we bundled ourselves up and started the hike. We did make it very far before we realized that the entire pathway was covered with 4 to 5 inches of ice. There was a fresh dusting of snow over the top of the ice, but it was just way too treacherous. If it were just Rico and I we would have carried on, but because we were holding our babies, it was just too dangerous, we only walked a short distance, and after slipping and sliding around, we decided we had better turn back. It's such a shame, because it is such a beautiful place.

We arrived at Lake Louise around 2:00. The lake itself is frozen over with several inches of snow covering the entire lake. In all the years I've been coming here I had never seen it look that way before, it was so interesting and awesome and very beautiful and almost serene.

We checked into our hotel, the Chateau Lake Louise and went up to our room. Our room is gorgeous, it's bigger and brighter than our room in Banff and we have a big picture window over looking the lake and the glacier, so wonderful!

After we got ourselves organized, we bundled ourselves up, yet again, although, not quite as much as we find we are acclimating a bit to this weather, and we went outside to look around. We found ourselves walking out onto the lake, along with many other people, what a strange feeling, walking on water!!! There is a large section that has been cleared away of all the snow, we actually saw a Zambonie on the ice, so that people can ice skate, wow, how neat is that. We walked about half the length of the lake and then Josh was getting tired of the cold, or just tired, so we turned back.

We then wandered around the hotel and found the gym and the spa. I inquired about a massage and they just happened to have an opening at 6:15 which was only about 45 minutes away, so we went back to our room and I changed my clothes and went to have my one hour massage.... ahhhhh. When I got back, all relaxed and happy, our room service that Rico had ordered had just arrived, so we all sat at the table with our beautiful view and had a wonderful meal, Rico had Prime Rib, I had a wonderful piece of salmon and Josh ate half a bowl of pasta (his favorite). His appetite has finally returned after suffering from the stomach flu before we left for our trip. Rico and I enjoyed a glass of wine with our meal, and it was all just so wonderful and perfect. Thus the end to another perfect day.....
